Try new things

Have hobbies — everyone is good at something! Let's focus on those strengths.

  • We are constantly learning, and there is always something new out there for us to learn.

  • Have you heard of the Kalimba? It’s a very small musical instrument played with the fingers, give it a try! You can get yourself one for under £10.

  • Ballroom dance lessons usually offer the first session free — there’s nothing stopping you from trying three or four different places, and before you know it, you’ll have had four free lessons and time to improve and decide if you are enjoying it or not.

  • Everyone’s heard of Duo Lingo for learning a new language — it may not make you a pro, but it will give you a purpose for a few months.

  • Try a new recipe for a meal or a smoothie.

  • Search for free courses — some are online, some are offered by Kingston Adult Education, some are offered by The Recovery College. Find something of interest to you.

  • Learn the lyrics to one of your favourite songs so that you can sing along to it! Very often, we know a song but not the correct lyrics.
